On behalf of all of us at the Oregon Association Chiefs of Police, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a wonderful holiday season! As we enjoy the holiday season and approach the end of 2021, it would be tempting to recount the many challenges and difficulties of the last few years. We could reflect on floods, ice storms, anti-police sentiment, civil disturbance and painful legislative sessions…and who could blame us for doing so? While I don’t want to ignore the real stress, strain and tragedy that were a part of our recent history, the word that keeps on finding its way to the forefront of my mind is gratefulness. One of my favorite authors, G.K. Chesterton says it well:
“When we were children we were grateful to those who filled our stockings at Christmas time. Why are we not grateful to God for filling our stockings with legs?”
In a world that has seemingly lost its way and either forgot to put out bread crumbs to find the way back or don’t care to look for them, gratefulness is a secret weapon that keeps us all from becoming cynical. After 27 years, I continue to be grateful for the incredible privilege of serving and representing all of you as Executive Director of the Oregon Association Chiefs of Police. Despite the crazy times we are living in, I’m grateful that I’m a small part of the most honorable of professions where our law enforcement leaders and agencies continue to protect our communities with justice, integrity, compassion and honor. I’m grateful for your friendship and your support for the association through thick and thin. It would have been easy to close ranks, withdraw and retreat…but you stayed with us and helped OACP survive a difficult season.
As Christmas quickly approaches, I’m hopeful you and those closest to you will experience the joy of time together, time to reflect, time to renew…and time to be grateful.

The OACP welcomes Redmond PD's new chief, Devin Lewis. Chief Lewis has more than 20 years of experience in Central Oregon law enforcement – spending the last two as captain of the Redmond Police Department. In 2016, he was recipient of the Sgt. John Lawrence Award of Excellence and later recognized by Deschutes County DA’s/Victim’s Assistance office with the 2018 Crime Victims Award. Chief Lewis' first day as chief will be January 1, 2022. The OACP wishes Chief Lewis a smooth transition into his new leadership role.

OACP College Scholarship Applications DueDecember 31, 2021
The Oregon Association Chiefs of Police will be awarding several $1000 college scholarships to winning students who plan on entering a law enforcement or other criminal justice career. The OACP is committed to promoting professionalism and we value the presence and contributions of educated men and women in these fields.
