State Initiatives:
The Oregon Knowledge Bank (OKB) serves as a resource hub for public safety practitioners in Oregon, focusing on evidence-based practices and problem-solving inspiration. It includes information on wellness programs implemented across various public safety agencies in the state.
The Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) offers advanced skills training, such as the Advanced De-Escalation and Escalation Prevention Training (ADEPT), which focuses on crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques. These programs aim to enhance the behavioral health and wellness of public safety personnel.
Established in 2021, the Oregon State Police's Health, Wellness, and Resiliency (HWR) Unit provides a centralized resource for services related to employee health, wellness, and resiliency. The unit offers training opportunities, including "Struggle Well" and "Emotional Survival," to support the physical and mental well-being of officers.
Local Agency Programs:
Portland Police Bureau Wellness Program (Policy 0500.00) The Portland Police Bureau's Wellness Program aims to enhance the physical, mental, emotional, social, and financial health of its members. The program includes initiatives such as allowing officers one hour of wellness activities per 10-hour shift, including exercise, financial consultations, and mindfulness sessions.
"Talking Beat" is a podcast that provides an overview of the Portland Police Bureau's Wellness Program, highlighting its comprehensive approach to supporting officers' well-being. The program addresses various aspects of wellness, including physical fitness, mental health, and financial stability.
The City of Bend Police Department offers Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services, providing officers with access to confidential counseling and support for personal and professional challenges. These services aim to promote the overall well-being of officers and their families.
Member Agency Support:
CIS Oregon offers wellness grants to public safety agencies to fund programs and activities that foster healthy workplace cultures. These grants support initiatives aimed at improving the physical and mental well-being of public safety personnel
Federal & National Resources:
The U.S. Department of Justice provides a collection of resources focused on officer safety and wellness. These resources include articles, podcasts, webinars, and other publications addressing various aspects of law enforcement officer wellness, such as stress management and resilience.
The Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Office offers resources on peer support programs aimed at enhancing officer wellness. These programs focus on building supportive networks among officers to promote mental health and resilience.
Lexipol's Cordico Wellness Platform provides law enforcement agencies with tools and resources to support officer wellness. The platform offers access to wellness assessments, training modules, and peer support features to enhance the well-being of officers.
The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) offers resources and initiatives focused on officer safety and wellness. These resources aim to provide law enforcement agencies with strategies and tools to support the health and resilience of their officers.
