Community Engagement Countdown to Christmas

The Christmas season is always a wonderful opportunity for agencies around the state to engage with their community, and we are featuring these events in the days leading to Christmas.

In days 9 - 15 of our Countdown to Christmas, we're featuring Eugene PD, University of Oregon PD, and Lane County Sheriff's Office participating together in their annual Shop with a Cop.

Also doing their annual Shop with a Cop is Salem PD along with officers from all over Marion County who helped guide kids around the store. Salem PD put togetherthis great video to celebrate the event.

Congratulations to Chief Dave Tarbet on his retirement at the end of December! Chief Tarbet has been the chief at Redmond PD for the past fourteen years, and has said it's been the best of his 36-year law enforcement career. Chief Tarbet has been an OACP member since 2008.  The OACP wishes him all the best in his future endeavors.

Congratulations to Chief Frank Schoenfeld (Molalla PD) on his retirement on November 30. Chief Schoenfeld has had a distinguished 32-year career in law enforcement, serving as chief of Molalla PD for the last three years, and will be missed in his community. He has been an OACP member since 2017. Best wishes to Chief Schoenfeld on his retirement!

Welcome New Chiefs!

The OACP hopes the transition for these new chiefs is a smooth one as they step into this important leadership role.

The OACP welcomes Chief Chris Long, Molalla PD's new chief. Chief Long took the reins at Molalla PD on December 1 after serving Molalla for more than two decades. In his time at Molalla PD, he has been a highly visible member of the department previously serving as PIO and leading community outreaches. Chief Long has been an OACP member since 2019.

The OACP welcomes Bandon PD's new chief, Cory Dhillon. Chief Dhillon is a 5-year veteran of the Bandon Police Department. He also served with the Coquille Police Department and Coos County Sheriff's Office. Chief Dhillon will begin as chief on or before January 1, 2022.

OACP College Scholarship Applications DueDecember 31, 2021

 

The Oregon Association Chiefs of Police will be awarding several $1000 college scholarships to winning students who plan on entering a law enforcement or other criminal justice career. The OACP is committed to promoting professionalism and we value the presence and contributions of educated men and women in these fields.

City Club of Eugene: Measure 11 Mandatory Sentences: Repeal, Revise, or Retain

Measure 11 is a state law that sets minimum mandatory sentences for certain crimes. It was approved by ballot referendum in 1994 by a nearly two-thirds majority of Oregon voters and went into effect on April 1, 1995. It was reaffirmed by the voters in 2000, but has also undergone several revisions in its nearly 30-year history.
