Topic: “A Rare Dress Rehearsal: Lessons Learned from the Silverton High School Swatting Call”
Description: On April 17, 2024, Silverton Police responded to a report of an active shooter at Silverton High School, a call that was later determined to be a swatting incident. This 90-minute session will walk through the incident, highlighting the complexities of a multi-agency response, communication breakdowns and successes, and lessons learned regarding site control, school coordination, and the urgent need for a pre-identified reunification plan. We will also cover FBI-recommended best practices for handling swatting calls and explore how even false alarms can reveal real gaps and opportunities in our response strategies.
