This fall, the OACP invites our members to take a stroll down memory lane. For those who have been with us for several years, we hope to rekindle cherished memories. For our newer members, we hope you enjoy the journey—soon, these moments will become your own treasured memories.

One week from today, DPSST will open their doors to host the 2024 Fall conference. This past July marked the 18th year since Oregon legislatures and law enforcement leaders across the state tackled the dire need for a new public safety training facility. Upon opening, the new academy was touted as a state-of-the-art training facility for police recruits. In fact, the facility and the curriculum implemented for public safety officers became a model for states across the country and Canada. The ability to train in a scenario-based environment, where police, fire, corrections, and 911 communicators could cross-train together, significantly improved the training experience for public safety recruits. This approach also allowed the DPSST trainers to evaluate the recruits more effectively and provide supplemental training as needed. Additionally, field training officers from agencies throughout the state were invited to the academy to observe their recruits, enhancing the quality of training each recruit received.
