FALL CONFERENCE TRAINING:
Three Minute Bonus Segment

Kevin asked Nate Sassaman to share his thoughts on the challenges that come with "change."  Nate acknowledged that it's natural for leaders to resist, but emphasized how vital it is to embrace change and to regulate the distress it may cause those you are leading.  Click on the photo to listen to this 3 min. video. If you find the information helpful, consider registering for the conference (if you haven't done so already), to benefit from his full presentation.

Information was sent out yesterday to all conference registrants regarding how to access the recorded video presentations. Please note that the volume with some of the videos is very low. We will be looking into improving this in the next week. Our apologies for this issue.  If you did not receive this message, please contact Deanna at [email protected].  If you have not yet registered for the conference, you can post-register using the link below.

Welcome to the new Woodburn PD Chief!

After completing a nationwide recruitment, which involved the screening and the interviewing of multiple candidates as well as the involvement of dozens of local community members and leaders, Deputy Police Chief Marty Pilcher was selected as the new Chief of the Woodburn Police Department.

Marty, who has been serving in the capacity of Acting Police Chief since the retirement of Chief Jim Ferraris last March, started with WPD on February 27, 2017. Prior to Woodburn, he served 28 years as a police officer in California, retiring as a Lieutenant of the Elk Grove Police Department. During his career, Deputy Chief Pilcher has served in a wide variety of assignments including Patrol, Investigations, Traffic, and SWAT.

"It is clear that Marty brings the integrity, professionalism, experience, and leadership that will continue to take our community and organization into the future," said City Administrator Scott Derickson. "I feel fortunate to have Marty on board and as part of our team."

The OACP wishes him the best as he steps into this important leadership role.

New Member Fun Facts!

In this last membership application process, we were interested in gathering some fun facts about our new members. We asked them four questions:

  • What hobby do you like to spend time on?
  • What's your favorite music genre?
  • If given a chance to vacation somewhere, where would it be?
  • Feeling hungry? What food would you grab first?

We hope you enjoy learning a little bit about these new OACP members.

Here's what Sheila Lorance had to say: "My favorite hobby is traveling and spending time at the coast and Sunriver. I love all kinds of music except rap, new heavy metal and not crazy about opera. I have so many places on my list for travel but my next trip will be to Ireland (my people) when all restrictions have been lifted."

Scott Creager commented: "I referee high school football and I like mac and cheese."

Karinya Moisan said: "Hobbies - Hiking, photography, reading, gardening, art. Music - depends on the day, the minute, the second, and my mood. Vacation - next up is Hawaii, Scotland, Germany. Food - Tacos & Watermelon."

Lance Diede answered in this way: "I enjoy fishing, family, and the outdoors. My favorite music genre is 90's rock. I would love to vacation in the Maldives, and my go to food is street tacos!"
