As the Conference, Education & Training Committee continues to think of creative and effective ways to provide training for the association, we are again considering ways to break outside of our traditional "conference boxes." We will be discussing these options with the Executive Board. In order to provide training for the most individuals, we are looking into hiring an AV service that will provide the following:

1. Allow more than 100 to attend the conference by live-streaming into an adjacent room. This would prevent any limit on in-person registrations.

2. Allow those who are not able to attend in person, to watch either Live, or access recorded presentations for a period of time at their convenience.

Although we are scrambling to make decisions surrounding the conference, we plan to open registration next Wednesday, April 7, and will provide a schedule at that time for you to refer to. We are focusing on getting the rest of our Exhibitors signed up for the Trade Show at the beginning of next week.

To stir up excitement about getting "out and about" after a year of COVID sequestering, and joining us in Bend, we want to feature a few activities and outings we are making available (at an additional cost) for both attendees and spouses while at the conference. Please consider the following in the days ahead:

1. GOLF TOURNAMENT on Monday afternoon, May 10. Chief Mitch Hicks is organizing this event where fun competition, prizes and awards will be dished out to all who participate.

2. MOONLIGHT SNOWSHOE TOUR with Wanderlust Outfitters on Monday evening, May 10 for all attendees and guests. Kevin and Marie Campbell have participated in this activity which is geared towards all fitness levels and gave it a 10!

3. SMITH ROCK WALKING ADVENTURE and THE LOCAL POUR  (A Beer, Cider, and Spirits Odyssey) with Wanderlust tours on Wednesday, May 12, and Thursday May 13. These will be available for spouses and guests who would like to enjoy activities in Bend while the conference takes place.

Click here for more information. We will make all these activities available to register for next week.

Nominate a Peer for an OACP Award

The Annual Conference is fast approaching and with it comes an opportunity to recognize fellow members by nominating them for an award. Although OACP's budget may not allow for traditional award plaques, we still want to acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments of OACP members in some meaningful way. Take a moment to read through the descriptions and consider which of your peers you may want to nominate.

Click here for descriptions of all the awards and their criteria, and to download a copy of the OACP Award Nomination form.

All award nominations are due by April 12, 2021.

The OACP congratulates Chief Bret Smith (Canby PD) on his retirement. Chief Smith served in this position with the Canby PD for over 11 years. Prior to his position with the City of Canby, he retired from the Portland Police Bureau having served nearly 29 years with PPB. His retirement comes after 40 years of faithfully serving Oregon communities. We appreciate his dedication and wish him the best!
