Meet one of OACP's  Annual Conference Presenters: Ed Monk

Topic: Critical Law Enforcement Lessons-Learned from Active Shooter Attacks

Presentation Overview:
This presentation will help law enforcement officers better understand the Active Shooter, his attack, the environment in which we will fight him, what is most likely to happen, how attacks in some types of locations differ from others and demonstrate over 20 law enforcement lessons-learned from successes and failures in efforts to interdict this threat.  This information will improve the law enforcement officer's mental, skill, and tactical preparation to stop this threat.

What: The largest collection of drones (UAS) ever assembled in one location in the Pacific Northwest, along with a demonstration titled "The Future of First Response.”

When: April 25, at 11:30 am (directly following the CIT training at the Convention Center)

Where: Pendleton Airport (a short distance from the Convention Center)

Presenter Bio: Steve Chrisman spearheaded Pendleton's effort to become an FAA-approved unmanned vehicle test range, which truly revitalized a long-struggling WWII-era airport. The Pendleton UAS Range is currently the most active UAS range on the West Coast.

The OACP Conference, Education & Training Committee believes this showcase, along with the live UAS  demonstration, will be a great value-add to those attending the Annual conference.  We are excited to offer this to all conference attendees at no additional cost.

Witness Dufour’s 20-ft wingspan VTOL Aero 2 operating for the first time in the Northwest.  This will provide a rare chance to view the leading edge of autonomous aerial technologies.

This optional event will include a free lunch. Take advantage of this opportunity before heading home after the conference.

The Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) honored the life and legacy of Jason Myers with a heartfelt bench dedication at the Oregon Public Safety Academy on March 17. OACP Executive Director Kevin Campbell (along with others) had the privilege of sharing some thoughtful words about Jason; his OSSA counterpart and long-time friend. Kevin spoke about Jason's integrity, his competence, and his goodwill. Myers passed away in October 2024 after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. The memorial bench stands as a tribute to his unwavering commitment to public safety and the lasting impact he had on his community.
