Chief Gwen Johns Leads a LETR Team in Berlin, Germany

“As we went through the communities, the streets were lined with German community members…we do a ceremony at each stop. Yesterday we put in 5.5 miles running and over 5 miles walking. Long days. On bus today at 0700.  Back to hotel at 2230. Lots of ceremonies.”

The OACP got some anticipated photos of Chief Gwen Johns (Stayton PD) as she (and fellow Oregonian Tiffany Monroe of Springfield PD) represent Oregon at the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin. Through invitation, Chief Johns had been asked to be a final leg team leader.  She is leading one of the 8 LETR teams as they carry the Flame of Hope across 16 communities in Germany safely escorting the torch to the opening ceremonies of the World Games. There are 86 LETR runners selected from around the world to take part in this event bringing awareness to the torch run, Special Olympics and spreading the word of inclusion worldwide.

TRAINING CORNER

Original Policing: Looking Back to the
Future of Policing

Presented by Chief John Teague, Keizer PD

Back in November of 2020, we hosted our very first virtual conference in which Chief John Teague presented Original Policing: Looking Back to the Future of Policing. This presentation recounts the history of policing and the inevitable historic arc that corrupted it, the remedy that didn't help, what jerked us awake 25+ years ago, and why the way forward is 190 years old. To view this 1 credit-hour presentation, log into the Members Only area and click on Training in the upper blue ribbon. You will find this video in the "F6 | Leadership" package.

While you're in the Training Center, check out the "Additional Training Opportunities" package where you'll find information for an upcoming training called 2023 Oregon Animal Control Council Training Conference scheduled for September 12 - 15.
