 Back the Blue Billboard Project

Maybe you’ve seen some of these billboards in your neck of the woods. Knowing our members would be inspired and encouraged by this project, we caught up with one of the facilitators to find out more.

Coming from a law enforcement family herself, Jennifer knows the difficulties associated with the job and wanted to show her support and appreciation for all that law enforcement does for their communities. Last summer she worked with others on the “Heart Attack” project. (Remember the blue and yellow hearts on the windows and doors of police agencies?) But Jennifer wasn’t content to stop there, so she went to Facebook to see what kind of support she would have if she decided to fundraise to put up pro-LE billboards across Oregon. The response was overwhelming.

With the help and donations of a couple hundred people (at least), she was able to put up approximately 10 Back the Blue billboards. She also shared her knowledge and experience to help  Fraternal Order of Police and other citizens around the state navigate some of the challenges of this project to successfully fundraise and erect additional billboards throughout Oregon.

Some of the locations of these billboards include: Milwaukie, Salem, Bend, La Pine, I205, TV Highway, I5, I84, and downtown Portland. A billboard in Pendleton is currently in the works.

Jennifer said that she was amazed at the response – "there really is a silent majority." She was privileged to be the vessel for those people who want to show their support, but don’t feel safe and comfortable to do it themselves. Jennifer’s hope is that law enforcement in Oregon will feel encouraged and appreciated. The OACP is grateful to Jennifer for her tremendous efforts, initiative, and servant’s heart.
