Have you noticed our newest SLIDING IMAGE BANNER "sliding by" on our public-facing website? If not, take a look at www.policechief.org. After launching our Job Board almost two years ago, it's been put to great use. Not only has it facilitated new hires around the state, it's been an extra revenue source for the OACP. We think that makes it a win/win! We decided to draw some more attention to, and leverage it all the more. Therefore...the creation of the banner.

If you haven't noticed, the banner features our newest Executive Board member, Chief Marcia Harnden. A Shout Out to her for always being an OACP team player and always stepping up to the plate when asked to lend a hand (even when it requires posing for a picture).

Placing an advertisement with the OACP is a great way to expand the market reach of your personnel search. We offer three great options for your advertisement:

  • Advertise on the policechief.org website for $100/month
  • Advertise in our OACP Weekly Update newsletter for $100/week
  • Advertise on the OACP Facebook page for $50.

Agencies or search firms interested in placing an ad should complete this form.

City of Florence Appoints New Police Chief

The OACP congratulates Chief John Pitcher on his appointment to Chief of Police of the Florence Police Department on July 1. This comes after John was appointed the Interim Chief of Police in May of this year following the sad and unexpected passing of Chief Tom Turner. Chief Pitcher has been with Florence PD for over 30 years serving as an Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Commander. He has been an OACP member since 2017. The OACP wishes him great success in his new role.

New Member Fun Facts:
We asked our new members about their hobbies, favorite music genre, where they would travel if given the chance, and their favorite food. Here's what they had to say:

Jim Yon: "I have a love for fly fishing even though I'm probably the worst fisherman alive. My wife, Angie, and I love to camp and ride our Polaris Ranger."

Bill Smith: "Hobby: Woodworking. I'm not very good at it, but it takes my mind off of work and I enjoy building something useful. Favorite Music Genre: Country.  Vacation: Korea. I was born in Korea, my mother was Korean, and I came to the US as a child. I have been raised in the culture and have several Korean relatives. I've been to Korea twice, both with the Army, and have enjoyed my time there. I would like to take my children there to see the country, enjoy the culture and partake in the cuisine. Food: Sushi"

Tony Barnett: "My primary hobby is hunting and recreating with my wife and two boys. My favorite musical genre is rock (Van Halen). I enjoy vacationing in Cabo. Steak and mexican-style dishes are my frequent go-to, and Doritos. I have a hard time saying no to Doritos."

Nancy Gardner: "I enjoy hiking, mountain biking, camping, skiing, and all things outdoors. I am a country western fan, but enjoy other music too. I have 5 grandchildren and enjoy spending time with them. My husband and I have been married for 41 years this July 10th - Mark, worked in law enforcement for 20 years and retired from the Mesa Police Department in Arizona. He currently is self employed and does remodel work. I love Coronado Island in San Diego. I love Mexican food, pizza and chocolate - but usually try to stick to a Keto diet."
