Membership Renewal Time

Thank you for your membership with the Oregon Association Chiefs of Police. We hope you find your membership valuable. The OACP is committed to partnering with you and will work hard to serve you in the year ahead. Please see below the ways we are committed to these values.

OACP facilitates the Oregon Law Enforcement Leadership Forum, a strategic gathering of leaders from public safety associations and organizations from around the state (OACP, Oregon State Sheriffs' Association, Oregon District Attorney's Association, Oregon State Police, Oregon Department of Corrections, Oregon Department of Justice, Oregon Criminal Justice Commission, Department of Public Safety Standards and Training)
  2. OACP engages in the Oregon legislative process to ensure that law enforcement values and positive public safety outcomes are achieved.
  3. OACP provides opportunities for professional development through innovative and compelling training conferences and events that focus on excellence in leadership and best practice policing.

OACP provides members opportunities to:

  1. Network with law enforcement colleagues at conferences and other OACP sponsored meetings and training events.
  2. Share workable solutions to challenges faced by members through the OACP Sound Off interactive system.
  3. Exchange best practice policy information and resources on emerging and critical issues.
  4. Maximize social media to highlight the good work agencies and individual members are involved in around the state
  5. Contribute their expertise through OACP committees where important decisions are made that impact law enforcement in Oregon
  6. Broadcast law enforcement news from across the state and US, along with current OACP happenings in our Weekly Update

  1. By keeping OACP members apprised of innovative programs, policy resources, and emerging issues.
  2. By providing easy access to resources through our Labor/Legal Library, Policy Resource Center, and the Executive Resource Program.
  3. By promoting a positive Public Safety image through strategic communication and special events that highlight the best of Oregon Policing.
  4. By showcasing OACP's community outreach programs like Parent Aid, the College Scholarship Program, and Special Olympics Torch Run.

Executive Leadership Virtual Symposium 

The Education & Training Committee is hard at work planning another virtual symposium. Although many details still need to be firmed up, they are considering that this winter conference consist of four morning sessions over the course of four consecutive weeks. The time frame that appears to be best is mid February to mid March. More information to come! 


Retirements
Alan Scharn, Director of Criminal Justice at Corban University, is set to retire after 10 years at Corban. The OACP thanks him for his 40+ years of service in law enforcement.

Chief Curtis Whipple, Rogue River PD, will be retiring in January after 30+ years in law enforcement. The OACP appreciates his contribution and partnership over the years and for serving on the Public Safety Task Force.

OSSA Annual Awards Ceremony
On Friday, December 18, Oregon State Sheriffs' Association held their Annual Awards Ceremony virtually. Kevin Campbell was one of two recipients awarded the OSSA Distinguished Service Award for their work in the Special Sessions this past year. Below is a link to the video presentation.
