Chief Darla Huxel Retires

The OACP congratulates Chief Darla Huxel (Umatilla PD) on her retirement. Chief Huxel joined Umatilla PD in 1996, becoming the first female officer in the department's history. She is a Life Member with the OACP and served as a Board District Representative for 14 years. She will be greatly missed both at Umatilla PD and with the OACP. The OACP wishes her a relaxing and fulfilling retirement.

PLANNING FOR RETIREMENT?

If you're planning for retirement within the next five years or so and don't know where to start, the Retired Member Committee is here to help. At the 2022 OACP Annual Conference in Bend, the Retired Committee met and the idea of a Retirement Resource Guide, to help those planning for retirement, was born. This body of information covers such topics as: Social Security, Medicare, PERS, and IRS. To check out this helpful resource, log in to the Members' Only area and hover over Resources. At the bottom of the list is the Retirement Resource Guide Homepage to give you an overview, as well as additional drop-downs that allow you to go directly to the topic of your choosing. We hope you find this resource to be a tremendous member benefit.

As the Scholarship Committee meets to decide on this year's scholarship recipients, we are reminded of the impact this program has on individuals looking to further their education in law enforcement. Recently we received this note of thanks from one of last year's recipients:

Dear Oregon Association Chiefs of Police Committee,

I wanted to express my appreciation and gratitude for your generosity in choosing me as one of last year's 2023 recipients to receive the $1,000 scholarship. As the year closes and I near completion of my degree, I am reminded of how helpful these funds were in pursuing this additional education. Thank you again for the assistance.

Sincerely,

Heather Martley
