Greetings OACP Members!
I hope everyone is doing well as winter quickly comes to a close and spring is just around the corner. It was so awesome seeing everyone who was able to attend ELTS in Seaside a few weeks ago! The conference was a huge success and I heard many positive comments about the speakers, events, and just being able to get together again in person. Hopefully, you were able to see colleagues you haven't seen in a long time, meet some new ones, and welcome any new OACP members. The opening day evening reception was a blast and I have never seen so many raffle prizes given away! Make sure you all ask Chief Dave Ham about the Tactical Pen he won, it was amazing!!!
The OACP Annual Conference is scheduled for April 12-15, 2022 at the Riverhouse on the Deschutes in Bend. I encourage everyone to sign up and plan on attending. Just like ELTS, this will be our first in-person Annual Conference in two years. The Annual Conference is not only important for the OACP from a business and revenue standpoint, but it also helps each of us fulfill many of our annual and 3-year maintenance training hours for Leadership. Not to mention it is a whole heck of a lot of fun with many fun events planned. Lodging information is on this Weekly Update below and on the website and a registration form will be available the beginning of March.
At ELTS the Scholarship Committee announced that we would be opening up the application process for the $2,000 IACP Scholarship. After the Victory Group put out the application materials we received an email regarding the eligibility requirements. The email asked why the scholarship was restricted to a "chief who has never attended the IACP previously." This is actually a mistake in the forms and should have been changed but with the cancellation of the two previous IACP conferences, I never made the change. The Scholarship Committee discussed the eligibility a few years ago and agreed the criteria should not limit applicants from having previously attended or only to chief's, but instead, it should read that "preference will be given to small-town chiefs and to someone who has not attended previously." This way someone who leaves a larger agency and may have attended previously but goes to a smaller agency with a limited budget and finances can still apply. So, if you have previously attended the IACP but would like to apply for the scholarship please do so remembering that preference will be given to small-town chiefs and those who have not previously attended. I hope this makes sense, if not send me an email with any questions. IACP 2022 will be in Dallas, Texas October 15-18.
Thank you for being an OACP Member. Take care, be safe, and stay healthy.

An OACP Training Center on the police chiefs' website is in the works and will be up and running sometime after the Annual Conference. This will house recorded presentations from all conferences and will be made available for purchase to individual members and non-members who need additional training hours. More information to come in the months ahead regarding this "Training Center" we'll be developing.
