Leading up to Christmas we will be featuring creative Christmas outreaches agencies are involved with. In spite of COVID restrictions, police departments around Oregon continue to find meaningful ways to make this season special for community members... while also keeping their city safe. If your agency is doing something unique, let us know about it.
Over the past couple of weeks, local artist Jessica Campbell, along with about a dozen children, have been working on painting the windows of the Carlton Police Department. The paintings were inspired by the kindness and goodness of the nostalgic artwork of Norman Rockwell. For Carlton PD, it reminds them to step back and look through the window of the past to times that were much simpler and togetherness was at the forefront of every community.
Watch this great video of the work they did to bring Christmas cheer to the Carlton community.

We thought Chief Martinez' musings captured the resilience, creativity, and a willingness to evaluate current policing practices that this past year required of ALL agencies. Carlton PD did it honorably and graciously as so many other agencies around the state did.

A HUGE shout out to Chief Don Taylor (Turner PD) and all who participated in this past weekend's Online Auction. Chief Taylor secured auction items from numerous businesses, organized the association's first ever online event, communicated clearly how this auction would unfold, monitored all the bidding, and will be making sure all the items get to the highest bidder. Chief Taylor was a one man show and we can't thank him enough for his good work on behalf of the association. Almost seven thousand dollars was raised for OACP's programs (college scholarships, Special Olympics, and Parent Aid). Thank you to all of you who purchased items and supported Chief Taylor in his efforts to ensure the success of the auction. To view a list of companies that donated click here.
Unfortunately because of COVID restrictions, the Executive Board had to make the difficult decision to cancel OACP’s Executive Leadership Training Seminar (ELTS). The Education and Training committee will be meeting mid-December to discuss options for training in the new year. They'll be considering creative ways to meet the education and training needs of the association.
Wondering about renewing your OACP Membership Dues? An invoice will automatically be sent to all members at the beginning of the year. In the meantime, no need to do anything.
If you're encouraging a college student to apply for OACP's College Scholarships, make sure to have them apply by December 31, 2020. Click here for more information.
