We've been on a mission to discover creative ways agencies around the state are engaging with their community during these challenging times and we thought Hillsboro PD met that criteria in a refreshing way.

During these summer months, Hillsboro PD has come up with a "cool" idea to connect with their community - Popsicle Patrols. They dressed up one of their vans as an ice cream truck, set it up to play “The Entertainer” over the PA, and handed out popsicles to kids of all ages. They’ve visited apartment complexes, parks, and even a credit union with a large crowd waiting to receive state unemployment payments. During the second patrol, they partnered with the Hillsboro Hops and took their mascot Barley with them. Close to 2,000 popsicles were handed out! They've decided this will be a new summertime tradition in Hillsboro.

We will continue to use this platform to highlight the good work agencies around Oregon are involved in. Let us know how your agency is engaging and making a difference in your community. One of our favorite things to do is share these ideas with fellow members.

In lieu of the Fall Conference, the Education & Training Committee is researching alternative options. Last week we sent out a message with a survey to assess the interest of online training. If you have not yet filled out this survey, please click on the link below. We appreciate and value your input.

2020 Interest in Online Training Survey

We are on a mission to highlight community support of agencies around the state. We’re aware that there are many Oregonians who are very supportive of their police departments and we want to give those neighbors a chance to have their voices heard. We thought utilizing each agency’s Facebook page would be the best platform for this. We have some creative ideas for what we will do with these responses...

Check out the following posts and all the great responses on Nyssa's fb page and Redmond's fb page. As you will see, there is a whole lot of support for Law Enforcement! We especially loved the following comments:

"You keep our town safe. You're the first responder to the accident. You're the stranger with a shoulder to cry on when things are bad. You run toward the danger while we run away to ensure our safety. I could go on..."

"You go out of your way to make someone’s day brighter all while risking your lives to keep us safe. You are genuinely good people."

"My family appreciates our LE because they work endlessly to protect us all. With very little thanks these days it seems. Police do a job not many can. Bringing home your days work heavy on your heart & shoulders I’m sure. We stand with you & back you all."
