This week, our mission to discover creative ways agencies around the state are engaging with their community led us to Canby.

On August 29, a "drive-thru" version of Cutsforth Cruise-in Classic Car Show drew approximately 2,000 car lovers to Canby. Canby PD Officers Steve Christman and Maria Campos were invited to select a classic car to win the "Police Award."

Also noteworthy is that Hope Village, a not-for-profit senior living community in Canby, wanted to honor their First Responders in a unique way. This desire resulted in a parade through their community. Residents congregated on their front lawns and sidewalks with signs to show their appreciation. There were 14 First Responder vehicles in all. It was a creative way to hold an event during the pandemic while still keeping everyone safe. They even had a man from Hope Village play his trombone!

Please note, we acknowledge that our limited space doesn't allow for larger pictures (and some that we receive are a bit blurry). We hope the platform you're using allows you to enlarge them.

We will continue to use this platform to highlight the good work agencies around Oregon are involved in. Let us know how your agency is engaging and making a difference in your community. One of our favorite things to do is share these ideas with fellow members.

 OACP News

As a result of a recent increase in job postings, we have updated our Job Board on our OACP website - Click Here to view. A convenient form is now available to ensure we receive the most important information to assist you in your personnel search. Additionally, we have expanded our advertising options to include three choices: OACP Job Board on our website, our OACP Weekly Update newsletter, and our OACP Facebook page - all for a nominal fee. We're hoping this will be of benefit to agencies around the state and beyond, as well as bring in some additional revenue for the OACP.

We're loving all the positive and supportive comments from communities around Oregon. Here are some more quotes to encourage you:

"Their caring, compassionate, support and belief in their community and its citizens while exhibiting behavior that promotes what they want from their citizens. i.e. like-kind behavior and always willing and ready to challenge and face evil while protecting their community."

"I appreciate our police department because you guys have always been helpful, protective, fair, informative and kind to me. Thank you."

"I appreciate that everyone in your department has been courteous and helpful whenever I have dealt with them, especially when I didn't know what to do next. You guys have been up front with what's happening in the community and have our best interests in mind."
