A Thanksgiving Message from Chief Matt Scales, OACP President
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. Not only is it a beautiful time of the year in Oregon, it’s also a time when friends and families come together and give thanks for what they hold dear. Although my family is scattered across the country, I am thankful that we are all healthy and chasing our respective dreams.
Whether you’re delighting in fellowship with family and friends or enjoying the slate of football games, I hope you take the time to pause and find something to be thankful for. We are blessed to be working in the greatest profession.
I want to extend my ongoing gratitude to the entire OACP membership. Many of you continue to answer the call to step up and fill board or committee responsibilities even though your plates are full with the work you do for your communities.
Speaking of answering the call, I know the Small Agency Conference was once again a great success and the members who participated, presented, and created content are appreciated. I also know the Second in Command committee is working diligently to provide training to those in key leadership positions within police organizations. I’ve reviewed some of the proposed content for a webinar training, and it looks like robust training on topics that are relevant to all of us. Thank you to everyone who sits on the Second in Command committee for working to pull this together.
I want to again thank the Victory Group - Kevin, Marie, and staff - for their efforts to keep me on track with tasks that need completing, and for their tireless efforts to keep us in the middle of key conversations as they relate to Measure 110 reforms and other significant topics that affect us all. They are instrumental in making the OACP successful.
In closing, please take time to thank your staff for all the work they do for you and the communities you serve. You have some of the best and brightest people in your organizations, and they look to you to guide them through uncertainty and difficult times. Thank them for standing watch over your communities, especially when they are missing the holiday themselves. Blessings to you and your families on Thanksgiving.
Chief Matt Scales
