With President Matt Scales reigning from McMinnville, the conference committee liked the idea of highlighting the uniqueness of his town. With that in mind, and the fact that the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum is one of McMinnville’s top attractions, we were inspired to embrace an air and space theme for the year. We are excited to debut this theme with our fall conference and will carry this aeronautical inspiration throughout President Scales' term of office.

Topic: Police Resiliency and Critical Incident Mindset
This class addresses the intense emotions that a first responder will experience before, during, and after responding to a critical incident, and the trauma post-incident that can have a lifelong impact on first responders. The class provides coping strategies first responders can employ in the moment for a more consistent and effective response to critical incidents, as well as coping strategies after such incidents. Josh also teaches how impactful trauma can be, and how to process through this trauma in the years after. In addition, Josh provides guidance on ways first responder agencies can improve the wellness of their workforce after such incidents, and how agencies can minimize the impact of external stressors on the workforce.

Understanding 'Human Error' and Restorative Just Culture Presented by Sydney Dekker
Sydney Dekker came to us via live-stream from the Netherlands when he presented at the 2022 Fall Conference. A few of the highlights are: recognizing the old and new view of human/organizational performance; knowing what to do when others blame 'human error' and see people as a problem to control; and discussing the advantages of restorative just cultures for reporting, officer engagement, psychological safety, learning and safety improvement.
To view this 2 credit-hour presentation, log into the Members Only area and click on Training in the upper blue ribbon. You will find this video in the "F6 | Leadership" package.
