Wondering how the OACP will be transitioning leadership with the cancellation of our Annual Conference?

See below the steps we are taking to creatively fulfill the requirements of our Bylaws during this unprecedented time. Please note that we are fine-tuning details as we go and slight adjustments may need to be made.

OACP Bylaws never anticipated the pandemic we are currently experiencing and don’t include provisions that provide us with the necessary flexibility to conduct a leadership transition process electronically. However, OACP staff has sought counsel from non-profit association partners that suggests that the current State of Emergency will allow us to move forward with the process electronically. A specific recommendation for conducting Officer and Board elections was forwarded to the OACP Board of Directors and was passed unanimously. Other than conducting the meetings and voting electronically, the plan seeks to follow the election provisions as set out in the Bylaws as closely as possible

  1. Past Presidents Nominating Committee Zoom Call: This Committee will gather zoom-style to discuss advancing a slate of qualified candidates for all officer and board positions to the general membership for a vote so that leadership transition can occur. Interviews with candidates will take place during that call.

  2. A message will be sent to all OACP members eligible to vote, providing them an opportunity to vote on the slate of Officer and Board members that the Past Presidents Committee advanced.

  3. Board meeting Zoom Call: This will allow outgoing President Chief Kris Allison to share an overview of the year, “receive her awards,” and hand over the gavel to incoming OACP President Chief Jim Ferraris. At this time, the Board and Officer slate will be announced, committees will have an opportunity to give updates, and the IACP Scholarship recipient will be announced.

  4. Information that is shared during the Zoom Board meeting will then be shared with the full membership.

2020 Annual Conference-          CANCELLED

After considering all available options, the Executive Board made the difficult decision to cancel the Annual conference for this year. Uncertainty regarding what the next few months will look like, as well as the expectation that city budgets for travel and training will be frozen, contributed to the decision. Last week information was sent out which allowed those currently registered to choose one of the following:
1) a full refund, or
2) transfer money to the fall conference. We know refunds often go back into city budgets and not to your department. The cost difference between the Annual Conference and the Fall Conference will be reimbursed in the fall when registering for the conference.
If you are currently registered for the Annual Conference and have not yet submitted the form to choose which option your prefer, please do so by Clicking here.

OACP FB AUCTION
Rumor has it that in spite of the Annual Conference being cancelled, Chief Don Taylor may be able to creatively host a facebook Auction to raise money for the good work of the OACP sometime this summer. More info on this to come.

Do You Have an Upcoming Retirement?
