2021 OACP Annual Conference Update
May 11 - 14 2021

WE ARE PIVOTING TO AN ALL VIRTUAL CONFERENCE...

After planning for and hoping to finally gather together in person, the rug was pulled out from us last Friday when we got a call from the Riverhouse advising us to cancel our in-person conference. The dramatic increase in COVID cases in Deschutes county within the time frame when data would be analyzed, led them to believe that the chances of meeting the requirements to gather in person were slim. We determined that while time still allowed, we needed to begin focusing on a virtual event.
In spite of the disappointment, we are still very excited about the approximate 16 hours of training that the Conference, Education & Training Committee has secured. The "Live Virtual" event will still take place the same original conference week, though the specifics are still being finalized. In the meantime, take a moment to view our line-up of training by clicking here

Participants will have a chance to watch "Live training" as well as recorded sessions at a convenient time. All but one presenter (Dave Sanderson) has approved the recording of their training.

OACP News

Congratulations to Chief Darrell Tallan (Monmouth PD) on his retirement on April 30. Chief Tallan retires after serving 32 years in law enforcement, including almost 20 years as Chief of Police. He is a Life Member with the OACP having joined in 2001. The OACP appreciates his contribution as a District 5 Rep, board member, and member of various committees and wishes him rest and relaxation in the days ahead.

The OACP appreciates Martha Brooks with Fight Crime: Invest in Kids for their faithful partnership over the years. At a time when budget challenges are not allowing the association to cover the costs of awards, Martha has stepped up and asked if her organization could cover some of these expenses.

Fight Crime, founded in 1996, is a national anti-crime bi-partisan organization made up of police chiefs, sheriffs and District Attorneys – more than 5,000 nationally – 120 of whom are from here in Oregon – who focus on programs that get kids started on the right path in life, keep them safe, and steer them away from crime. Their primary focus is to work with their members and elected officials to obtain the resources for quality early childhood care & education, after school & out-of-school programs, and child abuse & neglect programs such as home visiting. The OACP is saddened to report that former OACP Member and recently retired Albany PD Captain Alan Lynn has been diagnosed with Leukemia. The Albany Police Department has been supporting Alan and his family in practical ways and would like the public to know that a GoFundMe account has been set up on Alan's behalf.
